A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.
— Colin Powell
A year ago I ran my first marathon.
It took me over 5 hours, but I finished.
A marathon is unbelievably difficult. You don’t just get up one day and run a marathon, you have to get ready for it little by little, over time.
I started years ago by running only 1 mile at a time at a crazy slow pace. I worked my way up to 2 miles, then 3, and eventually 6 and 9. Then I ran my first half marathon. I never thought I’d be able to run a half marathon. It always seemed out of my reach.
I finally started to think “hey! I can do this!”
My writing journey has been very similar. I’ve been amazed at my ability to accomplish things that I previously never thought I was capable of.
It’s the little, consistent steps that level us up to become closer to our dreams. We level up a little at a time.
My dream of earning even a little extra money online has been a very similar experience. And I hope similar to your efforts to reach your dreams, whatever they may be.
I started in the end of June. The first week I earned a measly $2 or so from my articles. But it’s only gone up from there as I’ve published consistently.
I started with a goal to earn an extra $250 per month to try to supplement our house savings.
This month, my projections have me (hopefully) reaching that number. Or at least getting very close.
And you know what?
It didn’t seem as impossible as I thought it would be at the beginning. Just like that first 6 miler, that first step on the way to a decent little supplemental passive income online is finished.
Now I’m looking on to the next step.
How did I do it?
Again, commitment and consistency in the little, simple things that have made a big difference over just 2 short months.
Let me repeat that.
The little things, practiced consistently over time, will lead to you leveling up in life and accomplishing your dreams. Whether writing or running or anything else. You have to put in consistent effort over time.
You won’t get there in just one weekend of hustle.
Not even in one week of intense progress.
It will take months and probably years to get to your goal.
Which is exactly why most people quit.
The hardest part might just be finding the one little thing that if you did every day would lead you to success. But I’ve done it, so I know it’s possible.
All you have to do is start. Think of the one thing you need to do consistently that will lead you to fulfilling your dreams and you will reach the next level.
